What are veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, artificial coverings that are applied over the front of your natural teeth; to improve the appearance of your teeth. Each set of veneers is custom made for your teeth and composed of porcelain to give you the most natural look. With dental veneers, you can change all aspects of your teeth including color, size, shape and length.
Are veneers a good choice for me?
Porcelain veneers are an excellent choice because they are painless, sensitivity free, and an enduring way to bond your teeth. They cover teeth with tiny holes or pits and can give you a white smile if your teeth are discolored from coffee, tea, wine, or cigarette smoking. If you have a gap between two teeth, veneers can make the gap disappear. Our Shorewood, Joliet and Plainfield patients have been very pleased with the porcelain veneer work of Drs. Kurt and Jonathan Faber.
If you have been struggling with the confidence of your smile, porcelain veneers may be the solution for you. Dr. Kurt Faber and Dr. Jonathan Faber can fix the following dental issues for Shorewood, Joliet and Plainfield patients:
- Discolored teeth
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Uneven or misaligned teeth
- Teeth with gaps
Your dentist can determine if you are a candidate for veneers by reviewing your dental history and examining your teeth. Tell your dentist about your present concerns and expectations for veneers.
Are there different types of veneers?
Faber Dental Arts in Shorewood, Illinois offers three types of porcelain veneers to choose from:
- Composite "direct" veneers are a thin composite material that is bonded to the tooth surface. They are typically less expensive than other options. Composite veneers last from about three to five years. They are applied in a single office visit.
- Traditional porcelain “indirect” veneers are very thin. They are typically the most expensive type of veneer. Traditional porcelain veneers last at least 5 to 10 years. They may require a few office visits.
- Lumineer porcelain veneers are the newest type of veneer product. Lumineers are made of cerinate porcelain. They are very thin. They cost about the same as traditional veneers and last about the same length of time. They require two office visits
Your dentist will lightly buff your tooth surface before applying the veneer. This removes a small amount of enamel from your teeth. A bonding agent is applied and the veneer is adhered to your natural tooth. A light beam is used to harden the bonding agent. Veneers are irreversible because a small part of the tooth enamel is removed during the adhesion process.
Can I afford veneers?
Since porcelain veneers are considered cosmetic, some insurance companies will not cover the cost. Faber Dental Arts works with many insurance providers to ensure patients get their dental needs covered.
